The Goldfinch – Donna Tartt

A stolen painting becomes a thread connecting one boy’s grief to a lifetime of secrets.

After surviving a museum bombing that kills his mother, thirteen-year-old Theo Decker takes a small painting that becomes both a source of comfort and a dangerous burden. As he grows up, his attachment to it draws him into a world of art, obsession and deception.

Donna Tartt’s expansive novel explores loss, friendship, beauty and the consequences of choices made in moments of crisis.

If you liked The Secret History by Donna Tartt or the family bonds and lingering grief of The Dutch House by Ann Patchett, you’ll enjoy this richly layered story.
