The Dragon's Promise – Elizabeth Lim

Princess Shiori made a deathbed promise to return a dragon’s pearl to its rightful owner. Keeping it will carry her into the kingdom of dragons, through dangerous political intrigue, and into the path of thieves who will stop at nothing to claim its power.

The pearl is no ordinary cargo. It thrums with malevolent magic, helping Shiori one moment and betraying her the next. As it threatens her family and the thread of fate binding her to her true love, she must also hide the magic in her blood from those who would see her burned at the stake.

The second and concluding book in the Six Crimson Cranes duology, this Asian-inspired YA fantasy delivers dragons, magical kingdoms, court intrigue, an epic quest, and star-crossed romance. It is an ideal companion to Six Crimson Cranes and a satisfying choice for readers completing the series.

Rated 3.77/5 on Goodreads from more than 38,000 ratings. Readers praise the rich world-building, dragons, magic, and fairy-tale atmosphere. Some felt it was not quite as strong as the first book, while still finding the adventure enchanting.
