City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) – Cassandra Clare

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to a New York nightclub, she never expects to witness a murder, let alone one committed by three teenagers covered in strange tattoos. So begins City of Bones, the first book in Cassandra Clare's bestselling Mortal Instruments series, as Clary is pulled into the hidden world of the Shadowhunters, warriors sworn to rid the earth of demons.

Rated 4.1 on Goodreads, it's called a thrilling introduction to the Shadowhunter world with memorable characters and plenty of twists.
